What our visitors say:
Laura - attends on a Friday. “
I really enjoy going to the centre. I have made lots of friends and I like working with the animals. My favourite horse is Ruby. Riding her has really helped my weaker side and has given me more strength in my ankle ."
Interesting facts:
Ponies are small horses. They are measured in hands
(4 inches or 10 centimetres). A horse is over 14.2 hands.
Riding for Disabled Riders

At the Riding Centre for Special People we are host to the Wear Valley Riding for Disabled Association (RDA).
Riding for the Disabled (RDA) is a federation of Member Groups, dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through the provision of opportunities for riding and/or carriage driving.

Through the commitment of volunteers, Wear Valley RDA helps to improve the health and wellbeing of people with disabilities in our local area by delivering a real and lasting therapy that not only benefits mobility and co-ordination but encourages confidence and self-worth, achieving their goals whilst having fun.

Working in partnership, combining skills and passion we are able to provide complete equine related therapy.

Our centre is set up to meet the needs of disabled riders and visitors. We are equipped with specialist equipment, horses and ponies with ideal temperaments and experienced, qualified staff to ensure a safe and healthy environment to develop and learn; most importantly have fun in a relaxed safe environment.

If you feel our centre would be right for you or a person in your care, you're welcome to come and watch a session in progress and have a chat about suitability and availability.
We offer group sessions. Sessions range dependant on group, requirements and activities to be included.
